0:09hello
0:11today let’s talk about Jesus the door
0:16in the 10th chapter of John’s gospel
0:19Jesus has just completed the healing of
0:22the man born blind
0:23the Pharisees were angry because Jesus
0:25had healed the blind man on the Sabbath
0:29they said that Jesus was a sinner
0:31but Jesus said that he had come so that
0:34the blind may see
0:36and that those who see may become blind
0:39in other words those who see Jesus those
0:42who believe become forgiven of their sin
0:45but those who do not see Jesus who do
0:48not believe their sin remains
0:51the Pharisees ask are you saying that we
0:54are blind
0:56then Jesus told a mashal
1:00that’s a Hebrew word for a teaching with
1:03a hidden meaning
1:04John chapter 10 verse 1.
1:08truly truly I say to you he who does not
1:12enter by the door into the fold of the
1:14sheep but climbs up some other way
1:17he is a thief and a robber
1:20that’s the mashal the teaching
1:24at night the Sheep would be gathered
1:26into an enclosure with walls on three
1:28sides like a cave
1:31or a hollow in the mountain or simply a
1:34fence
1:35it had a narrow opening with a gate
1:38sometimes the shepherd himself would
1:40serve as the gate he would lie down so
1:43that any Intruder would have to pass
1:46through him in order to reach his sheep
1:50Jesus explains that the thief for the
1:52robber does not use the door he climbs
1:55in by another way he comes to steal kill
1:58and destroy the Sheep
2:00he is only out for himself he will even
2:02kill a sheep to keep it quiet
2:05but the one who uses the door is The
2:08Shepherd of the sheep he cares for the
2:10sheep and they trust him
2:13because his hearers including the
2:16Pharisees did not understand his martial
2:19Jesus expounds further
2:22verse 3.
2:25to him the doorkeeper opens
2:29and the sheep hear his voice and he
2:31calls his own Sheep by name and leads
2:34them out
2:36the door keeper opens the door to the
2:38shepherd of course
2:40the shepherd calls to his sheep they
2:42hear his voice the Sheep rejoice and
2:44they run to him he greets them by name
2:47he inspects them to make sure that each
2:49one is all right
2:51then he puts the Sheep out of the
2:53Sheepfold and he leads them into green
2:55pasture
2:57he is glad to use the door
3:00in fact you see many Shepherds may use
3:04the same fold at night
3:07there may indeed be several groups of
3:10sheep in the same enclosure
3:12all mixed up
3:14then each Shepherd had a unique voice
3:17and a special call
3:19a laughing sound for one a whistle or a
3:22shout for another
3:23his sheep knew their Shepherd’s voice
3:25and gladly ran to him
3:28he kept them well fed and healthy and
3:31most of all safe
3:33but the thief and the robber do not use
3:36the door
3:37and the Sheep do not know their voices
3:40so the Sheep do not follow the strangers
3:43they will flee from them because they do
3:46not know the strangers voices
3:49the Sheep of God know the voice of God
3:53we know the word of God
3:55and we know the message of Christ
3:58the message of the Gospel
4:00still
4:02even after Jesus gave further expansion
4:04of the martial
4:06or as is written in Greek
4:10as John writes in verse 6.
4:13they still did not understand
4:16and so Jesus continued now in verse 7.
4:21therefore Jesus said to them truly truly
4:23I say to you I am the door of the sheep
4:27all who came before me are thieves and
4:30robbers but the Sheep did not hear them
4:32I am the door
4:34if anyone enters through me he shall be
4:37saved and shall go in and out and find
4:40pasture
4:44this third time Jesus changes his
4:46martial just a little bit I am the door
4:49says Jesus this I am statement is
4:52thrilling and decisive Jesus is stating
4:54that he and the father are one Jesus Is
4:58God I am is the name of God I am the
5:02door says the Lord Jesus
5:05in the Hebrew scriptures in First Kings
5:08and in Ezekiel we learn that those who
5:10are false prophets and false Shepherds
5:13they claim to be Servants of God but
5:16they are not they are false
5:18they cared for themselves not for God’s
5:20people and they served themselves and
5:23their own evil purposes and not the Lord
5:26and his will and his ways
5:29but Jesus explains that he is the door
5:32that is to say he is the protection for
5:35the Sheep
5:37remember how the shepherd himself may
5:39lay down and serve as the door to the
5:42Sheepfold
5:43Jesus lays down his life for the Sheep
5:47Jesus is a mighty warrior at the name of
5:50Jesus demons flee at the name of Jesus
5:53every knee shall bow and every tongue
5:55confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the
5:57glory of God the Father
5:59the name of Jesus
6:01at his name and by his work on the cross
6:04the powers of sin death and hell are
6:07destroyed
6:09the wolf and the thief must pass through
6:11Jesus before they can get to his
6:14precious sheep
6:16but Jesus loves his sheep and he will
6:18protect us with his own life
6:21for that reason his sheep trust him
6:24not only that but Jesus the door is the
6:27way to safety Jesus is the way to being
6:30saved
6:32verse 9.
6:34I am the door
6:36if anyone enters through me he shall be
6:40saved and shall go in and out and find
6:43pasture
6:46there is only one name by which we can
6:48be saved Jesus Christ himself
6:51faith in Jesus saves us
6:54Jesus concludes his mashal with these
6:57words
6:58verse 10.
7:00I came that they might have life and
7:03might have it abundantly
7:06in the next verse Jesus Will begin a new
7:09martial I am the Good Shepherd
7:12but for today he has reached the end of
7:14this part of our Lord’s teaching Jesus
7:17is the door
7:18he has promised to be your protection
7:21and your mighty warrior
7:23he has saved you from sin from death and
7:26from all the power of the Devil by grace
7:29through faith
7:30all that he himself has
7:33Jesus has given to you
7:35so that you may have his peace
7:38his joy and His abundant life
7:42both now and forevermore
7:47amen
