| 0:09 | hello |
| 0:11 | today let’s talk about Jesus the door |
| 0:16 | in the 10th chapter of John’s gospel |
| 0:19 | Jesus has just completed the healing of |
| 0:22 | the man born blind |
| 0:23 | the Pharisees were angry because Jesus |
| 0:25 | had healed the blind man on the Sabbath |
| 0:29 | they said that Jesus was a sinner |
| 0:31 | but Jesus said that he had come so that |
| 0:34 | the blind may see |
| 0:36 | and that those who see may become blind |
| 0:39 | in other words those who see Jesus those |
| 0:42 | who believe become forgiven of their sin |
| 0:45 | but those who do not see Jesus who do |
| 0:48 | not believe their sin remains |
| 0:51 | the Pharisees ask are you saying that we |
| 0:54 | are blind |
| 0:56 | then Jesus told a mashal |
| 1:00 | that’s a Hebrew word for a teaching with |
| 1:03 | a hidden meaning |
| 1:04 | John chapter 10 verse 1. |
| 1:08 | truly truly I say to you he who does not |
| 1:12 | enter by the door into the fold of the |
| 1:14 | sheep but climbs up some other way |
| 1:17 | he is a thief and a robber |
| 1:20 | that’s the mashal the teaching |
| 1:24 | at night the Sheep would be gathered |
| 1:26 | into an enclosure with walls on three |
| 1:28 | sides like a cave |
| 1:31 | or a hollow in the mountain or simply a |
| 1:34 | fence |
| 1:35 | it had a narrow opening with a gate |
| 1:38 | sometimes the shepherd himself would |
| 1:40 | serve as the gate he would lie down so |
| 1:43 | that any Intruder would have to pass |
| 1:46 | through him in order to reach his sheep |
| 1:50 | Jesus explains that the thief for the |
| 1:52 | robber does not use the door he climbs |
| 1:55 | in by another way he comes to steal kill |
| 1:58 | and destroy the Sheep |
| 2:00 | he is only out for himself he will even |
| 2:02 | kill a sheep to keep it quiet |
| 2:05 | but the one who uses the door is The |
| 2:08 | Shepherd of the sheep he cares for the |
| 2:10 | sheep and they trust him |
| 2:13 | because his hearers including the |
| 2:16 | Pharisees did not understand his martial |
| 2:19 | Jesus expounds further |
| 2:22 | verse 3. |
| 2:25 | to him the doorkeeper opens |
| 2:29 | and the sheep hear his voice and he |
| 2:31 | calls his own Sheep by name and leads |
| 2:34 | them out |
| 2:36 | the door keeper opens the door to the |
| 2:38 | shepherd of course |
| 2:40 | the shepherd calls to his sheep they |
| 2:42 | hear his voice the Sheep rejoice and |
| 2:44 | they run to him he greets them by name |
| 2:47 | he inspects them to make sure that each |
| 2:49 | one is all right |
| 2:51 | then he puts the Sheep out of the |
| 2:53 | Sheepfold and he leads them into green |
| 2:55 | pasture |
| 2:57 | he is glad to use the door |
| 3:00 | in fact you see many Shepherds may use |
| 3:04 | the same fold at night |
| 3:07 | there may indeed be several groups of |
| 3:10 | sheep in the same enclosure |
| 3:12 | all mixed up |
| 3:14 | then each Shepherd had a unique voice |
| 3:17 | and a special call |
| 3:19 | a laughing sound for one a whistle or a |
| 3:22 | shout for another |
| 3:23 | his sheep knew their Shepherd’s voice |
| 3:25 | and gladly ran to him |
| 3:28 | he kept them well fed and healthy and |
| 3:31 | most of all safe |
| 3:33 | but the thief and the robber do not use |
| 3:36 | the door |
| 3:37 | and the Sheep do not know their voices |
| 3:40 | so the Sheep do not follow the strangers |
| 3:43 | they will flee from them because they do |
| 3:46 | not know the strangers voices |
| 3:49 | the Sheep of God know the voice of God |
| 3:53 | we know the word of God |
| 3:55 | and we know the message of Christ |
| 3:58 | the message of the Gospel |
| 4:00 | still |
| 4:02 | even after Jesus gave further expansion |
| 4:04 | of the martial |
| 4:06 | or as is written in Greek |
| 4:10 | as John writes in verse 6. |
| 4:13 | they still did not understand |
| 4:16 | and so Jesus continued now in verse 7. |
| 4:21 | therefore Jesus said to them truly truly |
| 4:23 | I say to you I am the door of the sheep |
| 4:27 | all who came before me are thieves and |
| 4:30 | robbers but the Sheep did not hear them |
| 4:32 | I am the door |
| 4:34 | if anyone enters through me he shall be |
| 4:37 | saved and shall go in and out and find |
| 4:40 | pasture |
| 4:44 | this third time Jesus changes his |
| 4:46 | martial just a little bit I am the door |
| 4:49 | says Jesus this I am statement is |
| 4:52 | thrilling and decisive Jesus is stating |
| 4:54 | that he and the father are one Jesus Is |
| 4:58 | God I am is the name of God I am the |
| 5:02 | door says the Lord Jesus |
| 5:05 | in the Hebrew scriptures in First Kings |
| 5:08 | and in Ezekiel we learn that those who |
| 5:10 | are false prophets and false Shepherds |
| 5:13 | they claim to be Servants of God but |
| 5:16 | they are not they are false |
| 5:18 | they cared for themselves not for God’s |
| 5:20 | people and they served themselves and |
| 5:23 | their own evil purposes and not the Lord |
| 5:26 | and his will and his ways |
| 5:29 | but Jesus explains that he is the door |
| 5:32 | that is to say he is the protection for |
| 5:35 | the Sheep |
| 5:37 | remember how the shepherd himself may |
| 5:39 | lay down and serve as the door to the |
| 5:42 | Sheepfold |
| 5:43 | Jesus lays down his life for the Sheep |
| 5:47 | Jesus is a mighty warrior at the name of |
| 5:50 | Jesus demons flee at the name of Jesus |
| 5:53 | every knee shall bow and every tongue |
| 5:55 | confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the |
| 5:57 | glory of God the Father |
| 5:59 | the name of Jesus |
| 6:01 | at his name and by his work on the cross |
| 6:04 | the powers of sin death and hell are |
| 6:07 | destroyed |
| 6:09 | the wolf and the thief must pass through |
| 6:11 | Jesus before they can get to his |
| 6:14 | precious sheep |
| 6:16 | but Jesus loves his sheep and he will |
| 6:18 | protect us with his own life |
| 6:21 | for that reason his sheep trust him |
| 6:24 | not only that but Jesus the door is the |
| 6:27 | way to safety Jesus is the way to being |
| 6:30 | saved |
| 6:32 | verse 9. |
| 6:34 | I am the door |
| 6:36 | if anyone enters through me he shall be |
| 6:40 | saved and shall go in and out and find |
| 6:43 | pasture |
| 6:46 | there is only one name by which we can |
| 6:48 | be saved Jesus Christ himself |
| 6:51 | faith in Jesus saves us |
| 6:54 | Jesus concludes his mashal with these |
| 6:57 | words |
| 6:58 | verse 10. |
| 7:00 | I came that they might have life and |
| 7:03 | might have it abundantly |
| 7:06 | in the next verse Jesus Will begin a new |
| 7:09 | martial I am the Good Shepherd |
| 7:12 | but for today he has reached the end of |
| 7:14 | this part of our Lord’s teaching Jesus |
| 7:17 | is the door |
| 7:18 | he has promised to be your protection |
| 7:21 | and your mighty warrior |
| 7:23 | he has saved you from sin from death and |
| 7:26 | from all the power of the Devil by grace |
| 7:29 | through faith |
| 7:30 | all that he himself has |
| 7:33 | Jesus has given to you |
| 7:35 | so that you may have his peace |
| 7:38 | his joy and His abundant life |
| 7:42 | both now and forevermore |
| 7:47 | amen |
