| 0:06 | hello |
| 0:07 | today let’s talk about the voice of |
| 0:11 | Jesus |
| 0:12 | in the 10th chapter of the Gospel of |
| 0:14 | John |
| 0:16 | Jesus tells us that he is the Good |
| 0:18 | Shepherd |
| 0:19 | his sheep hear his voice |
| 0:21 | and he calls them by name |
| 0:24 | a stranger they will not follow because |
| 0:26 | they do not know his voice |
| 0:29 | then Jesus says that he has other sheep |
| 0:31 | and that they too will hear his voice |
| 0:36 | in the ninth chapter of John’s gospel we |
| 0:39 | see an example or an illustration of |
| 0:41 | this truth |
| 0:42 | even before Jesus teaches it in the 10th |
| 0:45 | chapter |
| 0:46 | listen to the story of the man born |
| 0:48 | blind and how he hears the voice of |
| 0:52 | Jesus |
| 0:53 | so John chapter 9 |
| 0:56 | and Jesus as he passed by saw a man born |
| 1:00 | blind or blind from birth |
| 1:04 | and his disciples ask him some crucial |
| 1:07 | questions they’re wondering questions |
| 1:09 | about suffering and about Sin whose |
| 1:11 | fault is it that this man is blind from |
| 1:14 | birth was it because of the sin of his |
| 1:16 | parents or was it because of his own sin |
| 1:20 | now the blind man |
| 1:22 | is is not deaf he’s able to hear |
| 1:26 | and surely he’s listening and what he |
| 1:28 | will hear is the voice of Jesus for the |
| 1:31 | first time |
| 1:32 | the Lord says |
| 1:34 | it was neither that this man sinned nor |
| 1:36 | his parents but it was in order that the |
| 1:40 | works of God might be displayed in him |
| 1:45 | this was an |
| 1:47 | absolutely and completely wonderful |
| 1:50 | answer |
| 1:52 | so often |
| 1:54 | when we’re suffering |
| 1:57 | sorrowful or in pain |
| 2:00 | we can’t think of anything else |
| 2:03 | we have no other perspective but Jesus |
| 2:05 | here |
| 2:06 | gives Heaven’s perspective on suffering |
| 2:08 | and in short he says this provides the |
| 2:11 | opportunity for God to demonstrate his |
| 2:14 | power and his love for someone who |
| 2:16 | suffers |
| 2:18 | imagine |
| 2:20 | the hope that was given by the voice of |
| 2:23 | Jesus to this man born blind he never |
| 2:27 | had such hope |
| 2:28 | the whole idea that God would use this |
| 2:31 | suffering to demonstrate his love for |
| 2:34 | the man |
| 2:35 | the word of God is living and active |
| 2:38 | sharper than a two-edged sword this man |
| 2:40 | didn’t know Jesus but this was the word |
| 2:42 | of God and so it was working already in |
| 2:45 | his heart |
| 2:47 | then Jesus did something really |
| 2:48 | unexpected he bent down and spat upon |
| 2:51 | the ground and took the mud and made |
| 2:53 | some kind of clay and put it on the |
| 2:55 | Man’s eyes and he said to him go and |
| 2:58 | wash in the pool of Siloam |
| 3:01 | this was the second time he heard the |
| 3:03 | voice of Jesus |
| 3:05 | and so he went and he washed |
| 3:09 | and the scripture says simply and he |
| 3:11 | came back seeing |
| 3:13 | so he followed the Commandment of Christ |
| 3:16 | and what he what he enjoyed was the |
| 3:19 | blessing of Christ a sequence that we |
| 3:22 | should keep in mind that by following |
| 3:23 | the Commandment of Christ that we’ll be |
| 3:25 | blessed of Christ |
| 3:26 | so here this man comes back seeing goes |
| 3:31 | home |
| 3:32 | and strangely enough his neighbors are |
| 3:34 | not all together sure who he is |
| 3:36 | they’re asking him all kinds of |
| 3:38 | questions they’re asking how were your |
| 3:40 | eyes opened and did the once blind man |
| 3:43 | says the Man Called Jesus made clay |
| 3:47 | anointed my eyes and said to go to |
| 3:51 | Siloam and wash |
| 3:52 | I receive my sight |
| 3:56 | where is he ask the neighbors I don’t |
| 3:59 | know said the once blind man so the |
| 4:03 | neighbors |
| 4:04 | took him to the Pharisees |
| 4:07 | who really asked questions they wanted |
| 4:09 | to know about this man they wanted to |
| 4:11 | know about him making mud on the Sabbath |
| 4:14 | that was against the law and healing on |
| 4:17 | the Sabbath that was against the law |
| 4:19 | this was a two-time lawbreaker this was |
| 4:22 | a sinner |
| 4:24 | by now other Pharisees are thinking |
| 4:27 | it is unlikely that a sinner could do |
| 4:30 | such a miracle |
| 4:33 | and so they decide |
| 4:35 | this must be a hoax the Miracles are |
| 4:38 | fake |
| 4:39 | they’re going to get the Man’s parents |
| 4:41 | and find out if he ever |
| 4:42 | was a blind man much less |
| 4:46 | blind from birth |
| 4:48 | they get their parents the parents are |
| 4:50 | terrified by the Pharisees interrogation |
| 4:52 | and all they can do is point at their |
| 4:54 | son and say he is of age go ask him |
| 4:57 | so the Pharisees now begin a second |
| 4:59 | interrogation of the man born blind the |
| 5:03 | now man who can see |
| 5:06 | what you have to say about this man |
| 5:07 | Jesus they want to know |
| 5:10 | and something is growing |
| 5:12 | in the once blind man’s heart and he |
| 5:14 | says he is a prophet |
| 5:18 | their questions continued and he wanted |
| 5:20 | to know why are you asking me so many |
| 5:22 | questions do you want to become his |
| 5:24 | disciples too which infuriated the |
| 5:27 | Pharisees and they told him that he was |
| 5:29 | a sinner and they told him that Jesus |
| 5:31 | was a sinner |
| 5:32 | and he said that he wasn’t quite so sure |
| 5:35 | about that |
| 5:39 | he said it’s never been heard of it’s |
| 5:42 | never happened before |
| 5:44 | that a man who was born blind |
| 5:47 | received his sight |
| 5:49 | then he said |
| 5:51 | if this man were not from God |
| 5:54 | he could do nothing |
| 5:58 | and the Pharisees were done they did not |
| 6:00 | have anything to say about that |
| 6:02 | they literally threw him out |
| 6:06 | and Jesus |
| 6:07 | knowing what had happened |
| 6:10 | when searching for his sheep the Good |
| 6:13 | Shepherd |
| 6:14 | and now he was going to speak for the |
| 6:17 | third time |
| 6:18 | that this once blind man would hear the |
| 6:21 | voice of Jesus and the Lord |
| 6:24 | when he finds him simply says |
| 6:27 | do you believe |
| 6:29 | in the son of man |
| 6:31 | that is the all-important question |
| 6:34 | do you believe |
| 6:37 | who is he Lord that I may believe was |
| 6:41 | the response of the man |
| 6:43 | and Jesus said |
| 6:45 | you have both seen him |
| 6:47 | and he is the one who is talking to you |
| 6:52 | he is the one |
| 6:53 | whose voice you’re hearing |
| 6:58 | the Bible says faith comes by hearing |
| 7:00 | and hearing by the word of Christ the |
| 7:02 | word of Christ is what he was hearing |
| 7:05 | and now we see |
| 7:07 | a miracle of receiving sight |
| 7:10 | is really just an illustration of a |
| 7:12 | greater miracle |
| 7:14 | the miracle of receiving spiritual sight |
| 7:17 | the miracle of receiving faith |
| 7:21 | now the once blind man |
| 7:23 | could truly see not just with his |
| 7:26 | physical eyes but with his spiritual |
| 7:28 | eyes with the eyes of faith and so he |
| 7:31 | declared Lord I believe |
| 7:35 | and then he worshiped Jesus |
| 7:39 | the voice of Jesus the word of Christ |
| 7:42 | creates faith |
| 7:44 | and gives hope |
| 7:47 | Jesus knows the needs of all of his |
| 7:51 | sheep of each of his sheep especially |
| 7:55 | when we’re suffering |
| 7:56 | he knows |
| 7:59 | what it is to suffer |
| 8:01 | but he also knows the father he knows |
| 8:04 | the power of the father and the mercy of |
| 8:06 | the father and he knows the end from the |
| 8:08 | beginning |
| 8:09 | Jesus is the Good Shepherd and he knows |
| 8:13 | that he lays down his life for his sheep |
| 8:16 | so he watches over them and he provides |
| 8:19 | for them and he protects them |
| 8:21 | he |
| 8:23 | provides for you and he protects you |
| 8:26 | the Pharisees were not happy |
| 8:29 | are you saying that we are blind then |
| 8:32 | they ask Jesus |
| 8:34 | since you say that you see |
| 8:38 | your sin remains |
| 8:40 | says the Lord |
| 8:44 | in other words |
| 8:46 | if you have spiritual eyes you hear the |
| 8:50 | voice |
| 8:51 | of Jesus |
| 8:52 | you receive faith |
| 8:54 | and your sin is removed |
| 8:58 | but if your spiritual eyes are blind |
| 9:01 | you do not hear the voice of Jesus |
| 9:04 | you do not have faith |
| 9:07 | and your sin remains |
| 9:11 | so what is your takeaway |
| 9:16 | if you are the blind man |
| 9:18 | you know now the voice of Jesus |
| 9:21 | and you believe that he is your Good |
| 9:23 | Shepherd |
| 9:24 | Hallelujah |
| 9:26 | as for all of the other sheep like you |
| 9:30 | if you |
| 9:31 | need the Good Shepherd |
| 9:34 | he will leave the 99. |
| 9:37 | and he will find you |
| 9:41 | he will lay down his life for you |
| 9:44 | because you are precious to him |
| 9:48 | and when you hear his voice |
| 9:51 | you will not follow another |
| 9:53 | because you are no longer spiritually |
| 9:56 | blind |
| 9:58 | your eyes of Faith have been opened |
| 10:03 | and for that reason |
| 10:05 | your sin |
| 10:07 | has been removed |
| 10:10 | amen |
