0:06hello
0:07today let’s talk about the voice of
0:11Jesus
0:12in the 10th chapter of the Gospel of
0:14John
0:16Jesus tells us that he is the Good
0:18Shepherd
0:19his sheep hear his voice
0:21and he calls them by name
0:24a stranger they will not follow because
0:26they do not know his voice
0:29then Jesus says that he has other sheep
0:31and that they too will hear his voice
0:36in the ninth chapter of John’s gospel we
0:39see an example or an illustration of
0:41this truth
0:42even before Jesus teaches it in the 10th
0:45chapter
0:46listen to the story of the man born
0:48blind and how he hears the voice of
0:52Jesus
0:53so John chapter 9
0:56and Jesus as he passed by saw a man born
1:00blind or blind from birth
1:04and his disciples ask him some crucial
1:07questions they’re wondering questions
1:09about suffering and about Sin whose
1:11fault is it that this man is blind from
1:14birth was it because of the sin of his
1:16parents or was it because of his own sin
1:20now the blind man
1:22is is not deaf he’s able to hear
1:26and surely he’s listening and what he
1:28will hear is the voice of Jesus for the
1:31first time
1:32the Lord says
1:34it was neither that this man sinned nor
1:36his parents but it was in order that the
1:40works of God might be displayed in him
1:45this was an
1:47absolutely and completely wonderful
1:50answer
1:52so often
1:54when we’re suffering
1:57sorrowful or in pain
2:00we can’t think of anything else
2:03we have no other perspective but Jesus
2:05here
2:06gives Heaven’s perspective on suffering
2:08and in short he says this provides the
2:11opportunity for God to demonstrate his
2:14power and his love for someone who
2:16suffers
2:18imagine
2:20the hope that was given by the voice of
2:23Jesus to this man born blind he never
2:27had such hope
2:28the whole idea that God would use this
2:31suffering to demonstrate his love for
2:34the man
2:35the word of God is living and active
2:38sharper than a two-edged sword this man
2:40didn’t know Jesus but this was the word
2:42of God and so it was working already in
2:45his heart
2:47then Jesus did something really
2:48unexpected he bent down and spat upon
2:51the ground and took the mud and made
2:53some kind of clay and put it on the
2:55Man’s eyes and he said to him go and
2:58wash in the pool of Siloam
3:01this was the second time he heard the
3:03voice of Jesus
3:05and so he went and he washed
3:09and the scripture says simply and he
3:11came back seeing
3:13so he followed the Commandment of Christ
3:16and what he what he enjoyed was the
3:19blessing of Christ a sequence that we
3:22should keep in mind that by following
3:23the Commandment of Christ that we’ll be
3:25blessed of Christ
3:26so here this man comes back seeing goes
3:31home
3:32and strangely enough his neighbors are
3:34not all together sure who he is
3:36they’re asking him all kinds of
3:38questions they’re asking how were your
3:40eyes opened and did the once blind man
3:43says the Man Called Jesus made clay
3:47anointed my eyes and said to go to
3:51Siloam and wash
3:52I receive my sight
3:56where is he ask the neighbors I don’t
3:59know said the once blind man so the
4:03neighbors
4:04took him to the Pharisees
4:07who really asked questions they wanted
4:09to know about this man they wanted to
4:11know about him making mud on the Sabbath
4:14that was against the law and healing on
4:17the Sabbath that was against the law
4:19this was a two-time lawbreaker this was
4:22a sinner
4:24by now other Pharisees are thinking
4:27it is unlikely that a sinner could do
4:30such a miracle
4:33and so they decide
4:35this must be a hoax the Miracles are
4:38fake
4:39they’re going to get the Man’s parents
4:41and find out if he ever
4:42was a blind man much less
4:46blind from birth
4:48they get their parents the parents are
4:50terrified by the Pharisees interrogation
4:52and all they can do is point at their
4:54son and say he is of age go ask him
4:57so the Pharisees now begin a second
4:59interrogation of the man born blind the
5:03now man who can see
5:06what you have to say about this man
5:07Jesus they want to know
5:10and something is growing
5:12in the once blind man’s heart and he
5:14says he is a prophet
5:18their questions continued and he wanted
5:20to know why are you asking me so many
5:22questions do you want to become his
5:24disciples too which infuriated the
5:27Pharisees and they told him that he was
5:29a sinner and they told him that Jesus
5:31was a sinner
5:32and he said that he wasn’t quite so sure
5:35about that
5:39he said it’s never been heard of it’s
5:42never happened before
5:44that a man who was born blind
5:47received his sight
5:49then he said
5:51if this man were not from God
5:54he could do nothing
5:58and the Pharisees were done they did not
6:00have anything to say about that
6:02they literally threw him out
6:06and Jesus
6:07knowing what had happened
6:10when searching for his sheep the Good
6:13Shepherd
6:14and now he was going to speak for the
6:17third time
6:18that this once blind man would hear the
6:21voice of Jesus and the Lord
6:24when he finds him simply says
6:27do you believe
6:29in the son of man
6:31that is the all-important question
6:34do you believe
6:37who is he Lord that I may believe was
6:41the response of the man
6:43and Jesus said
6:45you have both seen him
6:47and he is the one who is talking to you
6:52he is the one
6:53whose voice you’re hearing
6:58the Bible says faith comes by hearing
7:00and hearing by the word of Christ the
7:02word of Christ is what he was hearing
7:05and now we see
7:07a miracle of receiving sight
7:10is really just an illustration of a
7:12greater miracle
7:14the miracle of receiving spiritual sight
7:17the miracle of receiving faith
7:21now the once blind man
7:23could truly see not just with his
7:26physical eyes but with his spiritual
7:28eyes with the eyes of faith and so he
7:31declared Lord I believe
7:35and then he worshiped Jesus
7:39the voice of Jesus the word of Christ
7:42creates faith
7:44and gives hope
7:47Jesus knows the needs of all of his
7:51sheep of each of his sheep especially
7:55when we’re suffering
7:56he knows
7:59what it is to suffer
8:01but he also knows the father he knows
8:04the power of the father and the mercy of
8:06the father and he knows the end from the
8:08beginning
8:09Jesus is the Good Shepherd and he knows
8:13that he lays down his life for his sheep
8:16so he watches over them and he provides
8:19for them and he protects them
8:21he
8:23provides for you and he protects you
8:26the Pharisees were not happy
8:29are you saying that we are blind then
8:32they ask Jesus
8:34since you say that you see
8:38your sin remains
8:40says the Lord
8:44in other words
8:46if you have spiritual eyes you hear the
8:50voice
8:51of Jesus
8:52you receive faith
8:54and your sin is removed
8:58but if your spiritual eyes are blind
9:01you do not hear the voice of Jesus
9:04you do not have faith
9:07and your sin remains
9:11so what is your takeaway
9:16if you are the blind man
9:18you know now the voice of Jesus
9:21and you believe that he is your Good
9:23Shepherd
9:24Hallelujah
9:26as for all of the other sheep like you
9:30if you
9:31need the Good Shepherd
9:34he will leave the 99.
9:37and he will find you
9:41he will lay down his life for you
9:44because you are precious to him
9:48and when you hear his voice
9:51you will not follow another
9:53because you are no longer spiritually
9:56blind
9:58your eyes of Faith have been opened
10:03and for that reason
10:05your sin
10:07has been removed
10:10amen
